JP Middle/High School Model: Multi-tier Support for Dropout Prevention PDF Print E-mail

According to the ERIC Clearinghouse on Urban Education, “A student's decision to drop out of high school is often the end result of a long series of negative school experiences--academic failure, grade retention, or frequent suspensions--that begin before the ninth grade..”

Middle and high schools face a number of challenges that are particular to students at this age/grade level.  These include (but by no means are limited to):

  • Academic disengagement
  • Social alienationJP Logo
  • School violence/safety
  • Academic failure

These challenges are exacerbated by the social and physical transitions that are endemic to middle and upper grade students.

That’s one of the reason’s JP has developed a specific staff development model for the middle and high school grades.

JP’s Middle/High School Model involves two critical features that have a dramatic impact on academic and social  performance:

  • Structured curriculum support for academically endangered students.
  • Structured behavioral support/social skills training.

How JP helps:

  • JP School Improvement Specialists will conduct a detailed review of your school or  district’s student performance and behavioral/referral data.
  • Following this extensive review, JP will provide you with a proposal that includes:
  1. Instructional support for intervention curricula
  2. Structured behavioral recommendations from members of our Alliance.JP Logo
  3. Throughout the year, JP School Improvement Specialists will coach each teacher individually, designing individualized staff development plans for each teacher and following up monthly.
  4. JP staff will review your assessment data regularly and provide reports on the success of the RtI implementation.
  5. JP School Improvement Specialists will review student placement based on ongoing assessment information and make grouping   recommendations.
  • At the annual Institute for Team Leadership, high-performing staff will be trained in JP’s acclaimed coaching model, building internal capacity to maintain the highest levels of ongoing staff development.
